Matei Arvunescu is an actor at Teatrul Excelsior and a graduate of UNATC “I. L. Caragiale”, where he completed both his BA (2016) and MA (2019). In recent years, he has built a diverse and intensive stage career, collaborating with directors such as Yuri Kordonsky, Alexandru Dabija, Radu Nica, Vlad Cristache, Bobi Pricop, and Răzvan Mazilu.

At Teatrul Excelsior, he performs in productions such as Metamorphosis, Dark Play, A Monster Calls (Seven Minutes After Midnight), (R)Evolution, Our Town, Punk Rock, The Threepenny Opera, and Turandot. He has also collaborated with institutions including Teatrul Odeon, Teatrul de Comedie, Teatrul Metropolis, and Teatrul Mic, building a repertoire that spans both classical and contemporary dramaturgy.

For his role as Alecto in (R)Evolution, directed by Radu Nica, he received the Best Supporting Male Performance Award at the Rinocerul Magazine Awards 2023. He has also been twice awarded at the UNATC Graduation Gala for Best Actor in a Leading Role (2019) and Best Supporting Actor (2016). His film work includes Blue Hour, directed by Mircea Alexandru Băluță and Eduard Burghelea, and The Wedding, directed by Mihai Bendeac.
